Theatre The Dolmen Rowen Gillespie

A fast paced comedy play about life, love and dieting – and how we all need to adjust the scales to find the right balance. Set in an Easi-Slim clinic we meet the highly driven Pam and the motherly Breda. Both attend the weekly clinic for the weigh-in and strike up an unlikely friendship.



Ger Gallagher: In addition to many short stories, Ger Gallagher is the author of three novels,  A Life Left Untold, Broken Passions & Shadow Play, (Poolbeg Publishers).  ‘Weighing-In’, was broadcast by RTE radio drama in January 2014. ‘Redemption Song’ a play commissioned by The Solstice Arts Centre, Navan, was performed in January 2014.   In January 2015, Ger, along with her partner Anne Raleigh opened the Dolmen Theatre, Cornelscourt.

She was resident Director and Assistant Artistic Director at the Abbey Theatre in the early 1990’s where she directed new work including Boss Grady’s Boys, Prayers of Sherkin and White Woman Street by Sebastian Barry; Triptych, The Invisible Man, and O Ananias, Azarias and Miseal by Jennifer Johnston. Blinded by the Light by Dermot Bolger; Frauds by Fergus Linehan and Joyicity by Ulick O’ Connor.  Mother of All the Behans (Viking Theatre, Clontarf. March 2014). Her next production will be in Dec 2015, Snake Eaters by Stuart Roche at the New Theatre.

Rose Henderson:

Rose is a regular voice-over artiste and was nominated for a Hennessy Award for her short story The Box.  In 2008 Rose wrote and produced her first play Ruby Tuesday in Bewley’s Café Theatre (dir Deirdre Molloy) and she has written three 10 minute plays with Pavilion Playwrights, whose next outing will be at the Pavilion Theatre in March 2014. In 2015, as well as a very successful country-wide tour of Weighing In, Rose wrote and  presented Writers in the Castle with Bryan Murray and the RIAM at Dublin Castle, and appeared as a nun in Penny Dreadful.


TV includes Val O’Dwyer in Fair City, Sister Assumpta in Father Ted (dir Declan Lowney), Mrs. Maloney in Raw and Breda in Single Handed (both directed by Charlie McCarthy).  Theatre includes Snow White at the Gaiety (dir Darryn Crosbie), 8 x 10 min plays (dir Conall Morrison), According to Sydney (dir Caroline Fitzgerald), and Resonances with Barry McGovern in Dublin Castle. Film includes Ivy in Behold the Lamb (dir John McIlduff), Mrs. Reilly in Earthbound (dir Alan Brennan), Rosaleen in Belonging to Laura (dir Karl Golden) and Sally Johnson in A Nightingale Falling (dir Garret Daly) to be released in 2014.

Isobel Mahon:

 Isobel’s recent TV work includes Bernie McMahon in the series 4, 5, 6 of The Clinic for RTE, Clarissa in the series ‘Legend’ for Fridge Films’. She played Michelle in the RTE series Glenroe for sixteen years. Other TV work includes The Governor by Lynda La Plante and Family by Roddy Doyle for BBC/RTE. Isobel has worked in all of the main Dublin theatres. Most recently in ‘Ladies Night’ for the Five Lamps Festival, Mum’s the Word at The Pavilion and Taking Steps at the Gaiety. She was awarded a Harvey’s award for Best Newcomer to the Irish Theatre for Semi Private at the Gate Theatre.

 As a writer Isobel has had The Bureau of Investigation and Preservation of the species produced for RTE radio.

 So Long, Sleeping Beauty was produced in Bewley’s Café Theatre, in Little Theatre of Chester, Massachusetts USA, in Oran Mor Theatre, Glasgow and for BBC Radio 4.It was also part of the  Gay Pride festival in Canterbury.

 Isobel was for some years a regular writer on Fair City.

Her recent writing for theatre includes The Life and Times of Selma Mae’ (rehearsed reading) ‘Ghost Stories’ at the Mill Theatre, Dundrum, ‘Billy the Boat Loves Angelina’ at The New Theatre, Temple Bar and ‘Box of Frogs’ all directed by Caroline FitzGerald, in the main theatre of Smock Alley , and a National Tour in 2013.

She also appears as a regular panellist on the TV3 show Midday
